Republic Services Sponsorship for USU Tooele Drives Final Phase of Building

Utah State University received a donation from Republic Services, Inc. for ongoing support at the USU Tooele Regional campus. Current construction efforts underway at the USU Tooele campus include the final phases of the Tooele Science and Technology Building.

“Republic Services considers itself not just a service provider to communities like Tooele County, but also a partner,” said Gordon Raymond, general manager at Republic Services and Utah State University alum. “Our long-term donations to Utah State University’s Tooele regional campus are a direct result of our partnership with Tooele County and Tooele County leadership. We hope that our continued relationship with the county will allow us to serve residents and Utah State University for years to come.”

Republic Services, an industry leader in U.S. recycling and non-hazardous solid waste, was recognized for its donation Oct. 30 at the Utah State University vs. Wyoming football game on the Merlin Olsen Field at USU’s Maverik Stadium.

“We are delighted that Republic Services has committed to USU Tooele’s students by providing ongoing support for the final phases of construction and beyond,” said Stan Albrecht, Utah State University president. “Corporate relationships are vital to the success of the university and the community.”

The Tooele County Commissioners office said it appreciates Republic Services for its exceptional corporate citizenship.

“They are a great example of businesses giving back through re-investment in the local communities they serve,” the office said. “The annual donation to the regional USU campus affords many Tooele area students and citizens an opportunity to achieve personal development and job growth.”

The USU Tooele Science and Technology Building will be dedicated January 2016.

Students at the Tooele campus will have access to cutting-edge technology for applied science research and study, including a cadaver lab. State-of-the-art distance learning technology and research laboratories allow courses to be broadcast to USU campuses throughout the state from the Tooele Campus — a first for USU’s regional campus. Funding for the support of the USU Tooele campus comes from a number of sources, including Tooele City, Tooele County, individual donations and private industry.
