Registration Open for 2006 Bioneers Conference at USU

Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson and renowned sustainability author Daniel Kemmis are keynote speakers for the third annual Utah Bioneers Conference Oct. 20-22, at Utah State University.

Registration is under way for the gathering, which features live satellite broadcasts of national conference sessions along with a variety of on-site workshops, panel discussions and exhibits. Discounts are available to students and to those who register by Sept. 30.

 

“Bioneers provides a forum for bringing people from diverse backgrounds together to find solutions to a variety of sustainability issues,” said Jim Goodwin, senior program officer in USU Extension’s Western Rural Development Center. “We encourage everyone to join us for stimulating discussion and fellowship. Many think the Bioneers Conference is the best conference on sustainability and the environment in the country.”

 

Anderson speaks Friday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m. at the Logan Tabernacle in downtown Logan. His talk, “Effectively Combating Climate Change Together,” is free and open to the public.

 

The gathering’s Celebration of the Earth at Sunrise on Sunday, Oct. 22, at 8 a.m. at the outdoor amphitheater on the southwest corner of Old Main Hill, is also free and open to all.

 

The conference opens Friday, Oct. 20, at 8:30 a.m. in the auditorium of the Eccles Conference Center on the USU campus. Kemmis speaks Saturday, Oct. 21, at 8:45 a.m. at the same location. Author of “This Sovereign Land: A New Vision for Governing the West” and “The Good City and the Good Life,” Kemmis was presented with the 1997 Charles Frankel Prize by former President Bill Clinton.

 

Walk-up registration for the conference is available, but advance registration is recommended. Several registration packages are offered, including three-day, two-day and one-day registration, with or without meals, ranging from $40 to $75.

 

Student registration for the three-day conference is $20 and includes continental breakfast each day and breaks. Student registration does not include daily luncheons, which students can register for at $5 per day. A limited number of student scholarships for the conference are available. Professional and university credit is also available.
