Registration Now Open — 2016 USU Spring Runoff Conference
Utah State University’s Spring Runoff Conference is April 5-6 this year. The annual spring runoff conference brings together researchers, scientists and top experts in Utah and Intermountain West to discuss water issues. This year’s conference is held at the Eccles Conference Center on USU’s Logan campus.
The program opens with invited presentations on Utah’s 2016 snowpack and surface water supply, future climate projections and demographics on Tuesday morning. The Utah Water Forum, featuring Larry McDonnell (U Colorado), Colorado’s Water Plan, and Niel Allen (USU), Laws, Markets and Institutions Related to Water Transfers, is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
The conference also features a special screening of the film A River Between Us, funded by a consortium of universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Science, Inc. Challenge Grant Award. The film looks at the Klamath River and, according to its synopsis, is a “call to action on behalf of the largest restoration project in American history.” Showing will take place on April 5 at 6:30 p.m. in USU’s Eccles Conference Center Auditorium, followed by a discussion with filmmaker Jason Atkinson, and is free and open to the public.
In addition, Wednesday morning will feature invited presentations on mountain hydrology and processes critical for water supply in the Intermountain West, with Charlie Luce (USFS), Climate and Snow, and Paul Brooks (U of Utah), Hydrological Partitioning in the Critical Zone.
All participants must pre-register before the conference begins. Cost to university faculty and other professionals is $75, while students can attend the two-day event at a reduced rate of $25. Online registration is available on the conference website.
Hosted by the USU Water Initiative, this year’s conference is supported by the Water Research Laboratory, College of Engineering, and Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Ecology Center, all from USU, and iUTAH EPSCoR.
