Registrants, Posters Sought for USU's 2014 Restoring the West Conference
Registration is open for the 2014 Restoring the West Conference slated for Oct. 21-22, at Utah State University’s Eccles Conference Center. Discounts are offered for students and participants registering by Oct. 9.
“Down by the River: Managing for Resilient Riparian Corridors” is the theme for this year’s gathering, which features talks and workshops led by scientists and land managers from throughout the western United States. This year’s conference focuses on areas where water and land meet are vital for water quality and quality, biological health and diversity, and social values.
Featured speakers include David Merritt, riparian plant ecologist with the USDA Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station in Fort Collins, Colo.; Robert Beschta, forestry ecologist with Oregon State University and Heida Diefenderfer, senior research scientist with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Sequim, Wash.
Cost to attend the two-day conference is $130 if registration is received by Oct. 9 and $150 after that date. Cost for students is $25 if registration is received by Oct. 9 and $35 thereafter. Conference cost includes materials, lunch and refreshment breaks on both days and an evening reception.

The gathering includes a poster session on Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 12:10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Eccles Conference Center. The poster abstract submission deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 7, at 5 p.m. MDT. Poster submission guidelines and instructions are available online.
The two-day conference is organized and sponsored by USU Cooperative Extension, USU Departments of Wildland Resources and Watershed Sciences, Quinney College of Natural Resources and the USU Ecology Center, USDA Forest Services, State and Private Forestry and the Western Aspen Alliance.
