Reference & Instruction Librarian Kacy Lundstrom Presents Inaugural Address

Recently promoted to reference & instruction librarian, Kacy Lundstrom delivered her Inaugural Address to friends, family and colleagues on Nov. 3 at the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art.

“It feels good to feel like I have contributed to the library and the university,” Lundstrom said. “I also have a sense of being at the beginning again – I keep thinking, what’s next? What might I do now that I’m in this new phase of my career? It’s exciting.”

Lundstrom received her Master of Science in Literature & Writing at Utah State University, followed by her MLIS at the University of Kentucky, where she learned that trees cannot serve as a substitute for mountains. She returned to USU in January of 2010.

Lundstrom currently serves as a liaison librarian to the Teacher Education and Leadership, Human Development and Family Studies, and Political Science departments. Her research interests include the assessment of information literacy (IL), collaborations with faculty on teaching IL effectively, and library teaching anxiety.

“It is a lot of work, but I like to be busy,” Lundstrom said. “I think finding balance is always a challenge. I had to think carefully about the balance between my research and my practice. I also had to negotiate the never-ending struggle for work-life balance.”

Lundstrom is published in College & Research Libraries, portal: Libraries and the Academy, and Communications in Information Literacy­–among others– and has presented at numerous national and international conferences.

“I am incredibly grateful to all my wonderful colleagues who have collaborated and shared their expertise with me along the way,” Lundstrom said.

When she’s not working, Lundstrom loves to be home with her daughter, husband and two dogs.
