Ray Somers Photograph Collection Grows With Recent Donation to Utah State University

Utah State University's Special Collections and Archives division recently received a substantial installment of photos from local history enthusiast and author Ray Somers. The photos, which range from the 1880s to modern times, will be added to the existing Raymond C. Somers Photograph Collection housed in the Merrill Library.

 

Subjects in the latest installment include decades-old photos of the Utah-Idaho Central Railroad (electric train) that ran from Preston, Idaho, through Logan to Ogden, including construction of the line; a WWI parade honoring returning soldiers; the Logan LDS Temple and Tabernacle, old agriculture equipment; the Utah State University campus, including buildings that have since burned; local schoolyards; Cache Valley residents and residences; and many images of downtown Logan businesses, including rare photos of an old saloon.
