Rat-a-Tat-a-Chick-a-Whack-a-Boom: Fall Percussion Concert at USU
The Sounds of Percussion will be heard as the Utah State University Percussion Ensembles and the Caine Percussion Ensemble take USU’s Kent Concert Hall Stage for their Fall Semester concert. The concert is Monday, Dec. 3, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door.
The concert features sounds ranging from delicate to bombastic and will provide a wonderful rhythmic romp through widely diverse styles from composers such as Shostakovich and Khachaturian, said Dennis Griffin, USU percussion professor.
USU's large collection of percussion instruments will be on stage with 25 of the most talented musicians in the music department at USU, he said.
“One of the most interesting pieces the ensemble will play is an arrangement of Biaxident by the progressive rock group Liquid Tension Experiment,” Griffin said. “The arrangement was made by USU sophomore music major Tyler Whitesides and was a challenging task because of the change in meters throughout the piece.”
A little jazz, some African music and a Christmas tune or two help round out the program.
