Pumpkin Walk Entertains Folks for 22nd Year in North Logan

A tradition since 1982 continued this year as hundreds of Cache County residents lined up outside of Ida Beutler’s farm for the annual Pumpkin Walk, celebrating its 22nd year.

The air is cold, but hearts are warm as they stroll around the Beutler farm. Surrounding them are scenes from classic stories, brilliantly painted and arranged. The scenes are from Walt Disney, Charles Dickens and even a pumpkin tribute to Robin Williams. All the scenes are made with pumpkins, gourds and squash.

“I thought it was really unique,” says Logan resident Brian Cox. “I’ve never seen anything like it before.”

Although the past years have seen hundreds of residents attend, volunteer Jen Casey said this has been the biggest year so far. “This has definitely been the biggest year they had. I just love seeing everybody come out, their expressions and comments are my favorite part,” she said.

One of the biggest draws for families to attend the Pumpkin Walk is because the price is right.

“So many ask to sell things at the walk,” explains Casey. “We want to make it free, and we are determined to keep it that way.”

The walk depends solely on volunteers and donations, which is a feat because planning and preparing for the pumpkin walk begins right after the current walk ends. All of the creativity is submitted by locals and volunteers.

“It is really exciting,” Logan resident Aubrey Thomas said. “My favorite display was The Sword and the Stone. I didn’t know pumpkins can be so many different things.”

The dark fall night and the glowing orange light emitted by the jack-o-lanterns really added to the ambiance, but the warm feeling felt at the pumpkin walk is really to be contributed to a community that supports tradition. The week-long event ran from Oct. 23-28.
