Public Invited to Diwali Celebration at Utah State

Utah State University’s Indian Student Association (ISA) invites the public to a campus celebration of the Indian holiday Diwali Saturday, Oct. 23. The event will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Stevenson Ballroom of the Taggart Student Center. Tickets are $15 per person and are on sale in the TSC and at the Smith Spectrum ticket office. Tickets are $10 for ISA members.

 

Celebrated throughout India, Diwali is a five-day Hindu festival featuring traditional foods, candles, clay lamps, fireworks and gift giving. Diwali means “rows of lighted lamps” in Sanskrit and is often referred to as the “Festival of Lights.”

 

According to a description provided by the ISA, Diwali depicts the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. The festival reminds participants to uphold the true values of life.

 

Utah State’s celebration will feature a dinner of authentic Diwali foods and a program of traditional Indian music and dance.
