Provost's Series on Instructional Excellence Begins

The Provost’s Series on Instructional Excellence, sponsored by the office of the executive vice president and provost at Utah State University, begins Tuesday, Sept. 23. The series is open to all USU faculty members.

The opening session focuses on instructional support and infrastructure and resources for teaching faculty. The session is presented by John Louviere from 3:30-5 p.m. at Merrill-Cazier Library, Room 154. The session will also be broadcast to a number of venues around the state (see list below).

According to the provost’s office, the bulk of the presentation will focus on the Canvas learning management system, including solutions for the following teaching tasks:

  • Communicating with individuals and all students within a course
  • Assessing student performance using assignments, discussions and quizzes
  • Providing students feedback using the Canvas Speedgrader and other integrated assessment tools
  • Organizing and displaying course content

Louviere, the session presenter, is director of USU’s Center for Innovative Design and Instruction, and has an educational background in engineering and technology education as well as instructional technology. His career includes work at the K-12 level as a teacher and in government programs as a manager for Colorado’s office of Innovation and Technology. His teaching and technology experience have resulted in specialization of online course development, with an emphasis on usability and, most recently, in learner analytics.
