President Albrecht Meets with Alumni Chapter Presidents

Kelly Wood, president of the Utah State University Alumni Association, welcomed the association’s chapter presidents to campus Oct. 21 at the opening of the chapter presidents conference.

Utah State University President Stan Albrecht was an invited guest.

“I want to thank you all for your time, effort, longs hours and dedication to students,” Wood said during opening remarks. “The work by our chapter presidents leads to our success, especially in providing scholarships. The Utah State University Alumni Association provides more dollars for scholarships than any other school in the state.”

The association also welcomed two new chapters, one in the Dominican Republic and another in southern Idaho. The association now counts 41 chapters — five foreign and 36 domestic. Thirty chapters were represented at the conference.

“Welcome. It’s great to have you back on campus,” Albrecht said. “You are the ones who get things done.”

Before responding to questions, President Albrecht presented an update on campus life and challenges facing the university. The recent van accident, enrollment concerns, tuition issues, and the cancellation of the presidential inauguration were discussed.

“In light of the van accident, we all decided that an inauguration would not be appropriate,” Albrecht said. “The inauguration was to be a celebration — not of a new president but of the university. It was to be a time of dialogue and the place of land-grant universities in the 21st century. And especially, Utah State’s role as a premiere land-grant institution.”
