President Albrecht Congratulates Students at Engineering Awards Banquet

Utah State University President Stan Albrecht congratulated the students attending the College of Engineering Awards banquet Feb. 25. The college is becoming, and will continue to become, one of the crown jewels of the university, President Albrecht told the gathering.

President Albrecht was able to join the banquet, usually held during the busy legislative session, because the legislative session has proceeded smoothly this year. In fact, Albrecht said this has been one of the most successful legislative sessions in recent years.

The college h onored its outstanding seniors, faculty and distinguished service recipients during the awards banquet held during National Engineering Week that was February 21-25.

Five students were recognized as outstanding seniors by their respective departments.

Michael J. Grover was honored by the Biological and Irrigation Engineering Department. Grover, of Rexburg , Idaho , is the son of Wayne and Nancy Davis and the late Steve Grover. The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department named Matthew H. Hebdon of Paradise , Utah , outstanding senior. He is the son of David and Carlene Hebdon. John S. Crockett of Colorado Spring , Colo. , was honored as outstanding senior in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. He is the son of Utah State alums Carl and Susan Crockett. Gregory P. Walton, son of Paul and Janet Walton of Las Vegas , Nev. , was the outstanding senior in Engineering Technology Education. The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department named Benjamin M. Andersen of Henderson , Nev. , outstanding senior. He is the son of Scott and Terry Leavitt and the late Benjamin K. Andersen.

Distinguished alumni awards went to Lyman S. Willardson, professor emeritus from Utah State’s Biological and Irrigation Engineering Department; Marvin E. Allen, partner with Hansen, Allen and Luce Consulting Engineers in Salt Lake City, Utah; Carlos B. Roundy, president and CEO of Spiricon; Jack C. Hunter, manager of flight safety for SkyWest Airlines in St. George, Utah; and C. Paul Pulver, scientist and lead engineer with ATK Thiokol.

Distinguished Service awards were presented to Elliot Rich, professor emeritus of Utah State’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Department; Alan W. Shaw, professor emeritus of Utah State’s Electrical and Computer Engineering Department; Jay C. Hic ken , professor emeritus of Utah State’s Industrial Technology education program; and James E. Patterson, CEO and president of Hypercomp.
