President Albrecht Addresses Annual Extension Conference
Utah State University Extension opened its annual conference March 7. The conference, held on campus, continued through noon, March 9, when an awards luncheon was held.
At the opening session Chuck Gay, associate vice president for Cooperative Extension, welcomed Extension agents, staff, administrators and faculty to the gathering.
“I now serve on a number of national committees in Washington, D.C.,” Gay told the group. “I see that your innovation, what you do here in Utah, shows up all across the country.”
Gay then introduced USU President Stan Albrecht.
“President Albrecht is a great friend — both personally and of Extension,” Gay said. “He is a true leader whose mission is Utah State University.”
President Albrecht welcomed everyone to the annual conference.
“Thank you for being here and thank you for your contributions to Utah State University,” Albrecht said. “You touch countless lives and you are the face of Utah State University. While many of you are located across the state, you are a part of us.”
Albrecht presented a PowerPoint presentation to the group — a presentation he is giving to all colleges on campus. The presentation provided an overview of the recent legislative session. A budget overview, enrollment discussion and the proposal for tier II tuition was presented. Compensation and health benefit packages were also discussed.
Also addressing the group were Provost and Executive Vice President Raymond Coward, Vice President for Student Services Juan Franco and Vice President for Business and Finance Glen Ford.
Albrecht also addressed the reorganization of Extension’s Continuing Education area.
“The reorganization of this area will not eliminate or reduce the educational efforts in the counties,” Albrecht said. “The move to the provost’s office will allow the programs to work even more closely with our deans and departments.”
Concluding his remarks, Albrecht again thanked participants at the conference and for their contributions to the university.
“We are optimistic about the future, but we still have some work to do, especially in the area of enrollment,” Albrecht said. “I have received excellent feedback and support from Noelle Cockett and Chuck Gay. We are moving forward, and have growing and robust programs on our regional campuses.”
The session concluded with a question and answer period.
