Prehistoric Artifact Roadshow at USU's Museum of Anthropology

A special event has been planned as part of the Museum of Anthropology’s “Saturdays at the Museum” series at Utah State University.

The museum will conduct a “Prehistoric Artifact Road Show” Saturday, Nov. 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the museum. Members of the Cache Valley, southern Idaho and northern Utah communities are invited to bring prehistoric artifacts to the museum for a panel of USU archaeologists to evaluate and answer questions.

 

“Our panel’s expertise includes bioarchaeology, zooarchaeology and the prehistoric Native American peoples from the Great Basin, California, southern Rocky Mountains, the Southwest and Southeast,” said program coordinator Ashley Smith. “We encourage visitors to bring prehistoric artifacts, which are objects made or manipulated by people before European contact, including arrowheads, spearheads, pottery and stone or bone tools. This is a special opportunity for the community to interact with our archaeological staff and have their questions answered about their artifacts.”

 

The museum staff has planned activities for children as well.

 

While the archaeology staff will provide information, monetary estimates will not be provided.
