Porter Fox to Speak at Utah State University

Porter Fox, editor at Powder magazine and author of Deep: The Story of Skiing and the Future of Snow, will speak at Utah State University Nov. 5 during Common Hour.

The multimedia presentation features the 8,000 year history of skiing, the most celebrated ski slopes in the northern hemisphere, the miracle of snow and why these could all be gone in the next 75 years. With Rocky Mountain snowpack down 20 percent and a $1 billion dollar ski industry in Utah, the future of skiing and snow have a big impact on the state. Fox will discuss why it is time to take action and how efforts to save snow just might end up saving the world.

Fox’s presentation is 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. at the Taggart Student Center Auditorium. A book signing will follow. Fox will present again in the evening at First Presbyterian Church in Logan from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.

The Utah State University presentation is sponsored by the USU Sustainability Council, Quinney College of Natural Resources, Center of Civic Engagement and Service Learning and the Department of Applied Economics in the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences. The presentation is a part of Science Week.

The community presentation is supported by Intermountain Bioneers and Bear River Watershed Council.
