Popular Science Magazine include's USU Center in 'Awesome College Labs'
Utah State University’s Center for Integrated BioSystems has been included in Popular Science magazine's “30 Awesome College Labs." The September 2010 college issue features USU’s cloning research laboratory.
Popular Science compiled a list of 30 groundbreaking programs in science, engineering and technology offered at schools around the country.
USU’s CIB, under the direction of Ken White, made the list for its collaborative research which produced the first successful cloned member of the horse family, a mule in 2003. Today USU continues to be active in the field with students producing hundreds of cloned embryos a week.
“It’s exciting to be recognized for a second time by Popular Science as an “Awesome College Lab,” White said. “We are always looking for new young minds to explore the emerging frontier of early development through understanding the processes involved in animal cloning.”
USU’s cloning lab first appeared in Popular Science in September 2008 when the magazine ran a feature called “A Geek’s Guide to Colleges.” At the time, the CIB was one of 10 universities listed under the heading of “Smartest Schools.”
