Political Science Professor on C-Span

Peter McNamara, a professor in the department of political science at Utah State University, appeared on C-Span in early July to discuss the legacy of Alexander Hamilton's economic policies. His appearance was part of a day-long symposium on Hamilton sponsored by the New York Historical Society and the Gilder-Lehrman Institute of American History.

This year is the 200th anniversary of Hamilton's death. Professor McNamara's area of expertise is Hamilton's political and economic thought.

McNamara was recently appointed as an academic advisor to a planned $2.6 million PBS miniseries, Alexander Hamilton. Additionally, McNamara will give a series of talks on Hamilton as part of the Utah Humanities Speakers' Bureau. The title of the presentation is The Remarkable Life of Alexander Hamilton, and presentations are planned in Cedar City (Aug. 3) and Parowan (Aug. 4).

McNamara has taught political science at Utah State since 1991. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Queensland at Brisbane, Australia, in 1980, and earned his doctorate in 1991 from Boston College, where he specialized in political philosophy. He is the author of Political Economy and Statesmanship: Smith, Hamilton, and the Foundation of the Commercial Republic (1998). He was the editor of The Noblest Minds: Fame, Honor, and the American Founding (1999). He has also worked as a research officer for Australia's Department of Treasury.
