Poet Kimberly Johnson to Read at USU

Poet Kimberly Johnson opens the 2006-07 Utah State University Department of English Speakers Series with a reading Monday Sept. 25, at 12:30 p.m. in the USU Haight Alumni Center. The event is free and all are welcome.

Johnson also conducts a master class the same day at 4 p.m. in the Tippetts Exhibition Hall of the USU Chase Fine Arts Center. The master class is free and open to all interested writers.

 

Johnson holds graduate degrees from UC-Berkeley, the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and the Johns Hopkins Writing Seminars. Her first poetry collection Leviathan with a Hook (Persea Books) appeared in 2002, and her second, A Metaphorical God, is forthcoming, along with a translation of Virgil’s Georgics.  She is the recipient of an NEA Creative Writing Fellowship, an Eisner Prize, a Mackay Prize for Latin Translation and a Barish Prize for Renaissance Scholarship. Her work — including poems, critical essays and translations — has appeared recently in The New Yorker, The Southern Review, The Southern Humanities Review and elsewhere.

 

Next up in the Speakers Series is Patrick Brantlinger, who speaks at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, in the USU Haight Alumni Center.
