Pine-Needle Drop no Cause for Alarm

During the fall, it’s normal for landscape pines to shed more needles than usual, says Utah State University Extension horticulturist Maggie Wolf. Though pines are called evergreens, their needles do not stay alive and green forever. If one-third to one-fourth of the tree’s needles fall, it is probably just a normal sign of aging.
