Persistently Pesky Pear Pests

The hungry codling moth relishes pears as much as people do, says USU horticulturist Jerry Goodspeed. Spraying for the moth too soon is useless and hurts bees, so Goodspeed recommends waiting until about three weeks after full bloom. Temperature, not the calendar, is the key to effective control, he says, so contact your county agent for advice.
