Outstanding Graduate Mentor Award

Rick Krannich, Utah State University professor and department head of Sociology, Social Work and Anthropology, received the Outstanding Graduate Mentor Award for 2005. He will be honored during commencement ceremonies May 6.

 

Krannich came to Utah State in 1980, and has taught numerous graduate students while conducting various research projects. His research includes more than 30 projects providing opportunities for graduate students to engage in research in areas of interest.

 

"Although he is one of the busiest professors on campus, Dr. Krannich still finds time to serve on graduate committees in his own department as well as in his role as adjunct professor in natural resources," said Dean of the College of Humanities Arts and Social Sciences Gary Kiger.

 

Students and faculty nominate professors for the award. An outstanding mentor is an effective advisor who facilitates students' degree completion and who is a model of sound scholarship and ethical academic behavior. Nomination letters discuss the nominee's mentoring approach, activities and successes

 

"Rick's nomination was supported by numerous letters from former students with whom he has mentored, taught and published," said Kiger.

 

Krannich models the attributes of hard work and service by encouraging participation in professional service organizations, Kiger continued.
