Old Main Society Honors Contributors at Annual Banquet

The Old Main Society at Utah State University will hold its annual banquet March 31 to introduce new members, present The Spirit of Old Main Award and honor those who have made significant contributions to the University.

 

“The banquet is a place to recognize those individuals whose lifetime giving has qualified them to become part of the Old Main Society,” said Patty Halaufia, director for development and events at Utah State. “It’s a time for the university to thank all of its donors and spotlight the quality students who benefit from our donors’ generosity.”

 

The society will honor Stan and Judith Meyrick, both graduates of Utah State and scholarship contributors, with The Spirit of Old Main Award.

 

“Stan and Judith were nominated for this award in recognition of their financial contributions and years of service to the university,” Halaufia said.

 

The Meyricks are “ambassadors” of Utah State, and have served on the board of their local alumni chapter. Stan currently serves as a member of the Utah State University Foundation board. The couple have made contributions and established two scholarships for Utah State students.

 

The Joseph Steven Meyrick Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of the Meyrick’s son, Steven, who died at age 21, and to honor the special education teachers who made school fun and instructive for him. The scholarship is available to students majoring in special education who either have a disability or someone with a disability in their family.

 

The Meyricks also established a scholarship in memory of Stan’s mother, Agnes South Meyrick, an elementary school teacher. This scholarship is awarded each year to a student majoring in business at the Uintah Basin campus in Roosevelt, Utah.

 

The Meyricks recently moved to Logan, Utah, after more than four decades of ranching in Spanish Fork. The couple’s three daughters are also Utah State graduates.

 

In addition to the Spirit of Old Main Award, the Society will induct 26 new members and honor them for their contributions to the Utah State.

 

“A university lives and dies by the support of its alumni and friends,” Halaufia said. “State funding cannot meet all the goals of a university. It is with the support of donors that higher levels of excellence are achieved.”

 

The Old Main Society was established in 1967 to recognize individuals who have contributed to the university through gifts of private money.
