Norm Jones Joins Editorial Board for AACU Publication

Norm Jones, department head and professor in USU’s Department of History, will join the editorial board of Liberal Education, a publication from the Association of American Colleges and Universities. Carol Schneider, president of the association, offered the invitation. Jones will be the only representative from a land-grant institution on the 12-member board.

From its founding in 1915, AACU has focused on advancing and strengthening liberal education for all college students, regardless of their intended careers. While the term is used in multiple ways, AACU sees liberal education as a philosophy of education that empowers individuals with broad knowledge and transferable skills, and a strong sense of values, ethics and civic engagement.

 

Jones joined the faculty at USU in late 1978, shortly after he earned his doctoral degree at Cambridge University in England. He has served as History Department head since 1994. He has published upwards of 30 scholarly articles and seven books, including “The English Reformation: Religion and Cultural Adaptation” (2001), “The Birth of the Elizabethan Age” (1993), “God and the Moneylenders” (1989), and the prize-winning “Faith by Statute” (1982). He has received grants and fellowships from the Huntington Library, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the University of Geneva in Switzerland, as well as Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard universities.
