ON TAP — For the first time since 2008, Utah State [University] (0-1, 0-0 WAC) gymnastics will host a tri-meet, as the 29th-ranked Aggies welcome No. 18 Arizona (3-3, 3-3 PAC-10) and No. 26 BYU (2-1) Friday, Jan. 14. The meet starts at 7 p.m. (MT) at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum (10,270). Fans who can't make it in person, can follow along with live results and live video through USU's website, www.UtahStateAggies.com. Friday is also USU Staff Appreciation Night and all Utah State faculty and staff get free admission with their USU ID card.
FIRST TRI SINCE ‘08 — Friday is the first time USU has hosted a tri-meet since Feb. 15, 2008, when the Aggies also hosted BYU along with New Hampshire. USU ended in second with 192.425 points, behind BYU's 193.725 points and ahead of UNH's 190.900.
BACK-TO-BACK AT HOME TO OPEN SEASON — This also marks the first time since 1999 that USU has opened a season with back-to-back home meets. Last Friday's home opener Jan. 7 was the Aggies' earliest start to a season since 2007 when the Aggies also opened on Jan. 7.
RARE VISITOR — Arizona is making its first trip to Logan since 1993 when the Wildcats came for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships, won by Utah while Arizona was second and USU was fifth. Overall, this is the first meeting between UA and USU since 2001 at a quad meet at Cal, when the Aggies were third, while the Wildcats were fourth.
FIRST PAC-10 VISITOR SINCE 2005 — While BYU is a regular visitor to USU and the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum, Arizona is the first PAC-10 team to visit the Spectrum since Cal on March 7, 2005.
IN THE RANKINGS — Arizona is tied for No. 18 in this week's GymInfo/Troester Rankings, tied with Iowa. BYU is No. 26, while Utah State is No. 29. The rankings are based on average scores.
