New Annual Faculty Awards Ceremony Announced to Recognize Outstanding USU Faculty

Utah State University’s Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost and Office of Research are pleased to announce the new annual USU Faculty Awards Ceremony, a program to recognize faculty members’ accomplishments during the past year.
“USU’s faculty are among the brightest and most accomplished in their fields,” said Francis Galey, executive vice president and provost. “This new ceremony will shine a spotlight on the extraordinary research, service, teaching, and other contributions made by faculty every day at USU.”
The awards ceremony will be Tuesday, March 30, from 3-4:30 p.m., and will be held virtually via Zoom.
In previous years, USU faculty awards were announced at the Robins Ceremony, Research Week and other events. Galey said that recent changes to these event formats works well, as it provides the opportunity to create a program especially for USU faculty.
“We are excited to partner together on this recognition ceremony for our faculty,” said Lisa Berreau, vice president for research. “This joint effort will allow us to put all our best faculty on a single ‘stage’ and showcase the breadth of their accomplishments. We know it’s a challenge to provide an elevated and celebratory atmosphere when we’re all attending virtually, but we hope that our nominees really take the opportunity to use this as the recognition event it’s meant to be.”
During the event, more than 60 nominees, representing every college, will be recognized. Recipients of the nine institutional awards will be announced live during the event and publicized after the ceremony. Physical awards will continue to be provided by the respective offices, and honorariums will remain the same as in previous years.
The USU Faculty Awards Ceremony will include recognitions for the following awards:
- Cazier Lifetime Achievement Award
- Wynne Thorne Career Research Award
- E.G. Peterson Extension Award
- Eldon J. Gardner Teacher of the Year Award
- Faculty Researcher of the Year Award
- Faculty University Service Award
- Graduate Mentor of the Year Award
- Undergraduate Faculty Mentor of the Year Award
- Undergraduate Research Faculty Mentor of the Year Award
“This event is a celebration of our faculty and the work they do on a daily basis to elevate the quality of education at Utah State University,” said Galey. “We look forward to doing this for years to come, hopefully in person.”
Friends, family, colleagues, and other guests are welcome and encouraged to attend. Those interested can RSVP on the USU Faculty Awards Ceremony website.
