Nebraska Printmaker Karen Kunc Next USU Visiting Artist Guest

Nebraska printmaker Karen Kunc travels to Utah State University as part of the Department of Art Visiting Artist Program. She will be on campus Feb. 19-21 and presents a public lecture Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. in the Eccles Conference Center, room 216. The artist will show images and speak about her artwork.

n addition to her public lecture, Kunc will present a workshop in the department of art’s printmaking area, FAV 106 in the Fine Arts Visual wing of the Chase Fine Arts Center (approximately 1200 E. 700 North, Logan). The workshop is Wednesday, Feb. 20, and runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The artist will also meet with advanced printmaking students to discuss their artwork.

 

All events are free and open to the public.

 

Kunc received her bachelor’s of fine art degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1975, and her master’s of fine art degree from Ohio State University in 1977. She is a Cather Professor of Art at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she has taught since 1983. Her works have been exhibited recently in solo exhibitions at the Davidson Galleries, Seattle; Kathy Caraccio Print Studio, New York; Gallery APA, Nagoya, Japan; Downtown Gallery, North Dakota State University, Fargo; and at Abercrombie Art Gallery, McNeese State University, Lake Charles, La.

 

She also presented solo exhibitions at the International Print Triennial in Kraków, Poland, and at the 7th Mondial de l'Estampe et de la Gravure Originale, Chamalières, France, fall, 2006.

 

Additionally, her prints have been shown in numerous international group exhibitions. Her works are represented in many public and private collections around the world.

 

Kunc has won more than 65 awards for her work, beginning with her first award as a graduate student in 1976. In 1996 she received a Fulbright Scholar Award and was recognized with the 2007 Printmaker Emeritus Award by the Southern Graphics Council, the largest printmaking membership organization in the country. She was honored at the SGC 36th annual conference in Kansas City, Missouri in 2007, with a presentation and a retrospective exhibition at the Leedy-Voulkos Art Center.

The final guest in this year’s Visiting Artist Program at USU is potter Mark Hewitt, March 24-27.The series is a part of activities organized under the umbrella of the Caine School of the Arts in the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences.

 

The Visiting Artist Program is supported by a grant from the Marie Eccles Caine Foundation. The Utah Arts Council, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Arts, the Utah Humanities Council, and the National Endowment for the Humanities, provides additional funding.
