Nature Conservancy Scientist to Discuss Water in a Changing World

Brian Richter, chief scientist for The Nature Conservancy’s water program and a global leader in water science and conservation, will speak about “Chasing Water in a Rapidly Changing World” at Utah State University and at the Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter in Park City.

Richter speaks at the Swaner Preserve’s education center Tuesday, Oct. 27, 6 p.m. The lecture is free for Swaner members or $5 for the public. He also lectures Wednesday, Oct. 28, 4 p.m., on USU’s Logan campus in the Agricultural Sciences Building Campbell Scientific Auditorium, Room 101. The Logan event is free and open to the public as part of the USU’s Year of Water activities and Richter’s visit is hosted by the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences.

Richter, has focused his career on water science for more than 25 years. In his work with The Nature Conservancy, Richter promotes sustainable water use and management with governments, corporations and local communities. He is also president of Sustainable Waters, a global water education organization, and has consulted on more than 120 water projects worldwide.

Richter has developed numerous scientific tools and methods to support river protection and restoration, including the Indicators of Hydrologic Alteration software that is used internationally. He is the author of Chasing Water: A Guide for Moving from Scarcity to Sustainability and co-author, with Sandra Postel, of Rivers for Life: Managing Water for People and Nature.
