Museum of Anthropology presents "Medieval Madness" at USU

Shire of the Côte du Ciel, the local chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), will recreate the medieval world with activities at Utah State University’s Museum of Anthropology Saturday, March 27. The activities are part of the “Saturday at the Museum” series in a return appearance of what organizers have called “a wildly popular event.”

 

During the hours 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the group members will demonstrate hand spinning, making chain mail, sword-fighting, calligraphy, manuscript illumination, heraldry, period games and more. Guests at the Museum of Anthropology will be able to experience the life and culture of pre-17th-century Europe.

 

“Many people do not realize how much language and Western culture have changed in the last one thousand years,” said Katie Anderson, museum assistant. “You will be surprised at what you do and do not recognize.”

 

Funding for Saturday events is provided by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). More information about the IMLS is available online.
