Mini-Buses Arrive and Driver Safety Certification is Required
Everyone who drives a university vehicle is required to attend certification classes and complete an approved Driver Safety Program. Certification renewal must be completed every three years.
Following a policy change, the university will now use 15-passenger buses with dual-rear wheels, replacing the fleet of 12- and 15-passenger vans. These mini-buses will be available through the USU Motor Pool. Safety training and certification for the new vehicles are required.
According to the university’s operating policies and procedures, all employees who regularly operate vehicles as a designated part of the job must complete an approved Driver Safety Program. It is the responsibility of each department head/director to ensure that all employees who drive vehicles are up-to-date with the Driver Safety Program. Departments are required to keep a copy of the completed driver’s test for each employee, and forward a copy to Motor Pool to update the Fleet Management database.
Training sessions for everyone who will drive the university’s new mini-buses are about to begin, and all drivers must pass the safety certification.
The first class is Aug. 9 from 1-5 p.m. at the University Police office, adjacent to the Parking and Transportation office located in the Public Safety building (northeast of Romney Stadium parking lot and Johnson Field). Registration is now underway. To register for the training, call the Parking Office, 797-3414, and ask for Afton Seibold.
The training sessions will be limited to 10 people, and sessions will be held twice a month through the academic year.
