Mike Sweeney has Titanic Adventure
Utah State University journalism professor Mike Sweeney is having a summer adventure that is shared with only a handful of other scholars, scientists and adventurers. Luckily, we can all experience Sweeney's adventure through narratives posted on the Department of Journalism and Communication's Hard News Cafe and at several other Internet sites.
Sweeney is taking part in the multi-discipline project Return to Titanic.
Nearly 20 years after locating the sunken remains of the most famous passenger ship in history, marine explorer Robert Ballard returns to the site for an 11-day expedition. With help from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Ballard's group will study the ship to better understand why and how fast the sunken ship is deteriorating.
Sweeney was contacted by National Geographic and asked to collaborate with Ballard on a book about the Titanic.
