Memorial Service Updates

Utah State University will suspend classes from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Nov. 7 to observe a memorial service for the eight students and an instructor killed in a van accident Sept. 26 near Tremonton, Utah. All classes and non-essential offices will be suspended during this time. School resumes at 3:30 p.m.

The university's Edith Bowen laboratory elementary school will remain in session. Because of its public school status, it has been determined that the elementary school is an essential service and therefore will remain open during the memorial. Efforts will be made to accommodate teachers and staff who desire to attend the service.

The special service begins at 1:30 p.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. Students, faculty, staff and community members are invited. Those attending are strongly encouraged to arrive early to ensure that everyone is seated prior to the start of the service. Overflow seating will be available in the Taggart Student Center Stevenson Ballroom and the Kent Concert Hall in the Chase Fine Arts Center. The service will also be streamed online at www.usu.edu.

"We want all of you who have been touched by this tragedy to feel welcome to participate," said USU President Stan Albrecht. "We wish to join together one last time as a university community to honor the remarkable men whose lives were so tragically cut short and to express our love and support to their families and friends."

The hour-long service will include remarks from Albrecht and Provost Noelle Cockett. Also speaking will be Elder L. Tom Perry of the Quorum of Twelve, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. All of the victims of the accident were members of the LDS church. Music will be by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir with prelude and postlude music played by the Tabernacle Choir organist.

Parking is available near the stadium, and shuttle service will be provided.
