MEET NOTES: Gymnastics Heads to NCAA Regional Championships this Weekend

WHAT'S ON TAP: Utah State [University] (7-11) heads to Salt Lake City, Utah, this weekend [April 2] to compete in the 2016 NCAA Regional Championships. The Aggies are the sixth seed in the Salt Lake City Regional, which is being hosted by No. 5 Utah. No. 8 UCLA, No. 17 Washington, No. 23 Southern Utah and Illinois round out the six-team field, which will compete Saturday, April 2, inside the Huntsman Center at 6 p.m. (MT).
ROTATION ORDER: Utah State will begin on vault and then have a bye. The team starts back up on bars, moves to beam and then has its second bye of the competition. The Aggies will finish on floor.
ROAD TO NATIONALS: Salt Lake City is one of six predetermined host sites on the road to the 2016 NCAA Women's Gymnastics Championships, which will be held April 15-16 in Fort Worth, Texas. The six regional sites also include: Tuscaloosa, Ala. (Alabama), Athens, Ga. (Georgia), Iowa City, Iowa (Iowa), Ann Arbor, Mich. (Michigan) and Minneapolis, Minn. (Minnesota/Twin Cities).
Each regional site features six teams, four all-around competitors who are not part of teams that qualified for regionals and two individual event specialists who met the minimum Regional Qualifying Score (RQS). The teams at each predetermined regional site were selected based on their RQS. Each site contains three teams from among the nation's top 18 (based on RQS). The six sites also have one team from each grouping of teams ranked between No. 19-24, 25-30 and 31-36. Seeding determined at the time of regional selections will be maintained throughout the championships. All-around competitors and event specialists are assigned to their respective geographic region.
The top two teams at each site and the top two all-around competitors who are not already on an advancing team will advance to Fort Worth. The Aggies have advanced to the NCAA Championships as a team just once in program history. Utah State reached the Championships in 1991 and placed 12th.
