Mardi Gras Mambo

New Orleans has traditionally hosted the largest Mardi Gras celebration each year in the United States, says USU folklorist Lisa Gabbert. French for “Fat Tuesday,” Mardi Gras is the final day of spirited celebration before the solemn observance of Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. New Orleans Mardi Gras colors, gold, green and purple, represent power, faith and justice, respectively.
