Telling loved ones your end-of-life wishes and consulting an attorney to prepare appropriate legal documents can prevent disputes, says Utah State University specialist Barbara Rowe. A health care power of attorney allows you to name the person who will make your medical decisions if you are unable to speak for yourself. A living will gives medical personnel permission to withhold or withdraw life support systems.
