Looming Teacher Shortage
According to a recent USU study, Utah will need to hire more than 44,000 new teachers by 2014. The state’s school-age population is expected to grow by 28 percent and more than 46 percent of today’s teachers will be eligible for retirement in the next decade. The study also found that half of new Utah teachers quit in the first five years.
