Looking Ahead: Register Now for USU's 2013 Restoring the West Conference

Registration is in progress for the 2013 Restoring the West Conference slated for Oct. 16-17, at Utah State University’s Eccles Conference Center. Discounts are offered for students and participants registering by Sept. 30.

“Change Agents and Managing for Forest Resilience” is the theme for this year’s gathering, which features talks and workshops led by scientists and land managers from throughout western North America. This year’s conference examines forest management in the face of changing climate and shifting disturbance factors, such as wildfire and beetles.

Thanks to a generous grant from the USDA Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station, cost for students to attend the two-day conference is only $10 if registration is received by Sept. 30 and $20 after that date. Cost for professionals is $120 if registration is received by Sept. 30 and $140 thereafter. Conference cost includes materials, lunch and snack breaks on both days as well as a reception.

“We invite scientists, land managers and owners, energy development firms, students and others to come together to discuss these critical issues,” says Michael Kuhns, professor and head of USU’s Department of Wildland Resources, USU Forestry Extension specialist and conference chair.

Featured speakers for the conference include Linda Joyce, USDA Forest Service; Jerry Franklin, University of Washington; Simon Landhausser, University of Alberta; Jessica Clement, University of Wyoming and Dominik Kulakowski, Clark University.

The gathering includes a poster session on Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 12:10-1:30 p.m. in the Eccles Conference Center. The poster abstract submission deadline for the poster session is Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 5 p.m. MDT. Poster submission guidelines and instructions are available online.
