Look Me in the Eye

In contrast to Anglo American culture, it is considered rude in Native American and Polynesian cultures to look a stranger in the eye when first meeting, say USU cultural specialists. In Native American culture, eye contact is gradually established as parties become better acquainted. In Polynesia, eye contact can be a sign of challenging authority.
