Lifferth-Dorius and Pimentel Earn USTFCCCA All-Region Honors

Utah State University track and field athletes Silas Pimentel and Stacie Lifferth-Dorius earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) all-region honors based on their finishes at the NCAA West Regional Championships this past weekend [May 31-June 1].

To be considered all-region the student-athlete must place in the top eight of his/her respective event. Lifferth-Dorius was sixth in the women's 3,000m steeplechase while Pimentel was sixth in the men's 100m dash and seventh in the 200m dash.

 

Lifferth-Dorius, a senior, and Pimentel, a freshman, just missed automatically qualifying for the NCAA National Championships by not finishing in the top five, but could receive an at-large bid. The two will await an announcement Wednesday [June 4] to determine if they will receive an at-large bid to compete in nationals.

 

Lifferth-Dorius placed sixth in the women's 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 10:20.93. That time is Lifferth-Dorius' season-best and the second-fastest in her career, just behind her school record of 10:10.89.

 

Pimentel came in sixth on Saturday in the men's 100m and seventh in the men's 200m race, with times of 10.60 and 21.30, respectively. In the 100, Pimentel and Calvin Abram of Arizona State both had 10.60 times, however, Abram's was officially a 10.598 and Pimentel's was 10.600. Pimentel was just off of his personal-best times of 10.45 in the 100m and 21.21 in the 200m.

 

If Liffeth-Dorius and Pimentel receive an at-large bid, they will travel to Des Moines, Iowa, on June 11-14 to compete at the NCAA National Championships.
