Library Demolition Set for March 13
The former Merrill Library has been vacated and in the past two months all items have been removed. The building is now being prepared for demolition.
Beginning the week of Feb. 6, a contractor will begin asbestos abatement and continue for several weeks. Also during this time period, several agencies will be in the building conducting training exercises, including the USU Police, Logan City Police and Fire Departments, Cache County Sheriff’s Office and Cache County Fire Department.
Beginning March 13, the contractor will begin the demolition of the building. The process, which includes removing the building and landscaping the site, will take approximately 120 days. Unfortunately, during this time period the C1 lot located east of the old library site will be closed and used as a staging area for the contractor.
Those who have a C1 permit should contact the Parking Office and arrangements will be made to park in an alternative lot until the C1 lot is available once again, sometime in the summer 2006.
“We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate the cooperation of the campus community,” said Joe Izatt, enforcement supervisor, Parking and Transportation Services.
