Less Commute Means More Study Time

As the state's largest public residential campus, Utah State University is a destination school, not a commuter one. That means less time for stress and more time to enjoy college life.

Students, faculty and staff who live in Cache Valley enjoy the lowest average commute time in Utah, according to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2005 American Community Survey.

The average Cache County commute is 16.1 minutes compared to 20.5 for Utah and a 25.1 minutes nationally.

Free bussing in Cache County and on the university campus further enhances the commuter experience for university students and employees.

The university's shuttle bus system, that operates from 7 a.m . to 7 p.m. along five routes, earned USU recognition this year from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Transportation as being "one of the best workplaces for commuters" in 2006 for providing users "outstanding commuter benefits which meet the National Standard of Excellence and help reduce traffic and air pollution."

To further help reduce air pollution, the university is adding to its fleet of vehicles, five natural gas buses that will not only mean cleaner air but more reliable service.
