Learn more about the USU Web site re-design

Dear students, faculty, staff and visitors: As you have seen, a revamped Web site has been released for the university Home page and secondary pages. The new Web site features a completely new design and navigation system.

About the top navigation

You may wonder where some of the useful links formerly at the top of the pages, such as webmail, directories or ACCESS, have gone. They are exactly at the same place but under a different link. The top navigation now includes six links (USU home, A-Z index, calendar, myUSU, contact and search).

USU Home

The link back to the university homepage.

A-Z index

This is the index to other USU links and it is one of the four search functions in the Search page (you can also search for people in the phonebook and the email directory, or search the Web site with Google). You can now run a search in the A-Z index using keywords.

Calendars

Links to the University Web Calendar. Three calendars are available: the events calendar, the academic calendar and the holiday calendar.

MyUSU

MyUSU is a new page where you will find easy login access to:

  • ACCESS (Banner)
  • Webmail
  • Library
  • WebCT and Syllabase

This page groups some of the links that were listed on the top in the old design. Links requiring login, such as Webmail, Access or the Library, are now easily accessible on the MyUSU page. The page can contain more links in the future if needed.

Contact

The contact page lists the main contact information for the University administration and the different colleges. It also provides two suggestion boxes, one for the university in general and one for the Web site.

Search

The new search page groups every kind of search possible on the main Web site. It groups the index, the Web sites search (Google) and the functions from the old "directories" link, which has been divided in two pages: the online phonebook search (mainly faculty, staff and departmental contacts) and emails search, which searches email accounts on webmail.

 The navigation portals

Audience portals

Audience portals provide categories of links and information that are of interest to five main user groups: Future Students, Current Students, Faculty & Staff, Alumni & Friends, Community & Visitors. These five "audience portals" will be on most of the main levels of the Web site, so users can easily return to their portal to find more information.

Information portal

Based on the same concept as the Audience portal, information portals list the main links to major sections of the Web site. There are three information portals: Administration, Student Life, and Museums & Arts.
