Kalaba Completes Utah State Softball Staff

New Utah State [University] softball head coach Carissa Kalaba announced the addition of a new coach to her staff, with the hiring of assistant coach Kyla Sullivan.

“Kyla Sullivan is a great pick-up for our softball coaching staff here at Utah State,” Kalaba said. “She is disciplined, diligent and motivated to be the best.  Sullivan will be primarily working with our pitching; we are looking forward to her turning things around for us in the circle.”

Sullivan comes to Utah State after finishing up her playing career at Western Michigan University.  Sullivan was an all-conference pitcher for the Broncos, being named first team all-Mid American Conference in 2008 in second team in 2007.  She also received second team all-region honors in 2007, as well as being named the conference pitcher of the week five times.

In her final season at Western Michigan, Sullivan posted a 1.97 ERA and pitched four out of five innings of a no-hitter.  Sullivan was even better in conference play, holding teams to 1.21 earned runs per game.

After graduating from Western Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in human relations management in 2008, Sullivan spent a portion of the 2009 season as a volunteer coach for Kalaba’s former school Biola University.

Sullivan also stood out as a pitcher and hitter on her high school team.  A four-year letterwinner at Saugus High School in California, she posted a 21-4 record with a 0.59 earned run average and a .366 batting average as a senior.  Overall, Sullivan was 59-25 as a pitcher in high school, and played for a national championship with a 14 and under American Softball Association team.

Sullivan was born July 14, 1986, in Saugus, Calif.

Sullivan joins Kelly Park as the two assistant coaches. Park is in her second season at Utah State.
