Joyce Albrecht Presents Giving Heart Award in Brigham City
Former Box Elder County Commissioner Suzanne Rees was honored Thursday, Jan. 18. at a Giving Tea co-hosted by Utah State University First Lady Joyce Albrecht and Brigham City’s Mayor Lou Ann Christensen.
Students and staff of Utah State’s Logan and Brigham City campuses, along with community members, friends and family of Suzanne Rees, gathered at The Lodge in Brigham City to honor Rees with the Giving Heart Award for her service in the community.
The Giving Tea events are part of Albrecht’s efforts to build scholarship funds for USU’s Women’s Center and to honor women making a difference. USU has regional campuses located throughout the state, and Albrecht plans to make a statewide impact by hosting a giving tea in each of Utah’s 29 counties.
“It’s a huge undertaking but it is so important and that makes it well worth my while,” said Albrecht.
Scholarship recipient Angie Day expressed appreciation for the assistance she received from the Women’s Center during the Brigham City ceremony. Like many re-entry students, Day faces the challenge of balancing work, family and school.
“With all the other things I’ve got to worry about, I’m so grateful I don’t have to worry so much about how I’m going to be able to afford to earn my degree, ” said Day.
All of the donations raised at the giving tea directly benefit re-entry students attending the Brigham City Regional Campus, or non-traditional students from Box Elder County attending the Logan campus of Utah State University.
