Join a Free Journey of Discovery at the American West Heritage Center

Come to the American West Heritage Center Friday Sept. 24, to discover, learn, and explore. Utah State University and the American West Heritage Center have joined forces to bring a free community appreciation day for everyone in the valley. On the same day, the center will host a nationally promoted Artist Paint Out workshop and kick off the annual Corn Maze.

 

Starting at 10 a.m. and running through 7 p.m., all four historical venues at the center will be open, including the 1917-era Farm Site, Pioneer Site, Mountain Man Encampment and  Shoshone (Native American) Village. Within these sites, demonstrators explain and perform numerous activities. The new Petting Zoo will be open for children to enjoy, and there will be storytelling and hands-on activities. So, round up family and friends to find out everything about the American West Heritage Center and much more.

           

The Artist Paint Out, featuring some of the West’s most renowned western artists, will be in process and center visitors can observe activities. Paint Out participants will be on site painting and examining the beauty of the site and surrounding mountains and landscapes. Questions and comments are welcome.

The Heritage Center is located at 4025 S. Hwy 89-91 in Wellsville, just six miles south of Logan.

 

A 160-acre living history site, the American West Heritage Center was created in 1998 with the combination of two existing Utah State University programs — the Ronald V. Jensen Living Historical Farm and the Festival of the American West. The center is a non-profit 501(c)(3), dedicated to celebrating and preserving the history, heritage and culture of the American West from 1820-1920. The American West Heritage Center’s Living History site is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day, Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m.– 5 p.m., and for special events throughout the year. The 7,000 square foot Welcome Center and gift shop are open year round. The Opera House, Livery Stable, and Welcome Center can be rented year round for weddings, corporate retreats and office parties.
