Jazz It Up with USU Students
The Utah State University Jazz Combos presents the annual fall jazz concert Tuesday, Nov. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the Performance Hall on the Logan campus.
“This concert is a great opportunity for student musicians and audience members, thanks to the interaction between them,” said Jon Gudmunson, director of jazz studies in the Caine College of the Arts. “The students learn first-hand what music the audience enjoys and the audience gets to interact with the musicians.”
This performance features several combo groups — some directed by students. The Caine Jazz Combo, one of the groups, is a scholarship-based ensemble of seven jazz students. Joining the Caine Jazz Combo are “The Popsicle Factory” and “The Hellin’ Kelins,” two of the jazz combo groups.
The performance features an original student composition, Pineview, by guitarist Nick Manning. Other pieces the groups will perform include Au Privave by Charlie Parker, Golden Slumbers by the Beatles and Aqua de Beber by Antonio Carlos Jobim.
Tickets are $10 general admission, $8 seniors and youth, $5 USU faculty and staff and free for USU students with ID. For more information and tickets, visit the Caine College of the Arts Box Office in room 139-B of the Chase Fine Arts Center, call 435-797-8022 or check the college website.
