It's History Making — Alum Sets American Record
Dan John, a Utah State alum who graduated with a degree in history, has set an American record, conquering the weight pentathlon at the USATF National Masters, held recently at Colorado State University.
The pentathlon consists of five throwing events, in which John nearly broke the world record. Contestants have three chances in each type of throw, and then are scored using a point system. John said he was pleased with the outcome of the competition, as he also set his personal record.
John was an Aggie from 1977-1979, when he competed in throwing events for the Track and Field team.
John now serves as the Diocesan director of Religious Education for the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City, training teachers for parishes and schools in Utah. He also teaches religious studies for Columbia College of Missouri at the Salt Lake extension, reaching students worldwide.
