International Student Council President Meets President Albrecht

Youssef Filali, president of the International Student Council, met with Utah State University President Stan Albrecht in an introductory meeting Tuesday, March 22. Filali offered congratulations to President Albrecht and invited him to the International Banquet and Cultural Show that will be held on campus April 2.

The International Student Council is an organization that represents all international students who study at Utah State University. The council provides a variety of programs and services for Utah State's international students. The council was actively involved in the recent university-wide "Wave of Relief" tsunami aid campaign.

Filali has been at Utah State for two years. He is an electrical engineering major from Morocco. He follows in his father's footsteps — his father received a doctorate from Utah State in 1984. He also has a sister at Utah State who studies business. Utah State's international graduates are the school's best ambassadors and recruiters, he said.

"Many of the students I know here are children of former students," Filali said. " Utah State University has a strong reputation among those who have attended."

Filali said he would like to develop an international alumni network. As president of the International Student Council he also said he would like to bring people together and encourage participation and interaction on campus.

President Albrecht asked for suggestions and comments throughout the meeting and concluded by agreeing that communication is important.

"We are a global community," Albrecht said. "We need to talk more and make sure that our campus embraces the global community."
