INL Lab Director to Speak at USU Friday, April 13

Utah State University’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering welcomes Admiral John Grossenbacher for a presentation on nuclear energy research and the U.S. energy portfolio Friday, April 13, at 1:30 p.m., in the engineering building, room 101.

Grossenbacher is director of the Idaho National Laboratory and president of Battelle Energy Alliance. His experiences include leadership and management of large institutions with substantial efforts focused on technology research and development.

Before joining Battelle, Grossenbacher had a distinguished career with the U.S. Navy, achieving the rank of vice admiral and commander of the U.S. Naval Submarine Forces. He earned a bachelor’s in chemistry from the U.S. Naval Academy, and he holds a master’s in international relations from Johns Hopkins University. In addition, he completed the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration Program for Management Development. 

Grossenbacher is a leader with a refined sense of strategy, an in-depth technical knowledge and a focus on delivering results. He is one of only a handful of officers in U.S. Navy history to be awarded both the Stockdale and David Lloyd Awards for Leadership Excellence. As commander of the U.S. Naval Submarine Forces, Grossenbacher led the integration and consolidation of the U.S. Navy’s Atlantic and Pacific submarine forces.

Grossenbacher is noted for his ability to build and lead multi-disciplinary teams, to meet complex science and technology challenges and to achieve success in developing and sustaining collaborative relationships with multiple stakeholders.
