President Bush's nomination of John Roberts for chief justice is a shrewd and almost inevitable decision, says USU political scientist Mike Lyons. By initially touting Roberts for retiring Justice O'Connor's vacancy, he's Bush's logical choice for the court's top spot. Lyons predicts Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez will be Bush's other pick for Supreme Court nominee.
