Growing USU ETE Conferences Geared to Innovate Teaching
The AIS Faculty Conference has grown from 150 inaugural participants in 2014 to over 400 in 2017.
Utah State University faculty will tap into the latest teaching innovations, energize their classrooms and get inspired at two annual Empowering Teaching Excellence (ETE) Conferences.
Hosted by USU’s Academic and Instructional Services (AIS), the August 14 ETE Foundations of USU Teaching prepares new faculty for teaching excellence and the August 16 Faculty Conference helps existing faculty use innovative methods to adapt their instruction to students.
“These conferences continue to grow off of the previous years’ success,” said Robert Wagner, vice president of AIS. “We are all lucky to be a part of a university where the faculty members are striving to maintain high teaching standards and are constantly looking for ways to improve, change, and adapt their teaching styles. These conferences also provide a great venue for faculty to get to know each other and share ideas.”
“Targeting Outcomes for Mastery Learning” is the title of this year’s Faculty Conference keynote presentation by Kelli Munns. She is a lead lecturer and English Equestrian Team coach at the Equine Science Center at USU in the Department of Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Sciences. Following the keynote, faculty-led breakout sessions and panels will provide an opportunity for attendees to interact, share and explore other topics related to teaching.
According to Travis Thurston, an AIS faculty development coordinator charged with organizing the conferences, the Faculty Conference has grown from 150 inaugural participants in 2014 to over 400 in 2017. The Foundations Conference will be held at the Agricultural Sciences building and the Faculty Conference is in the Taggart Student Center.
